Infographic: Overview of the process of baking sourdough bread

Baking sourdough bread takes time, and that is the beauty of it.

In this infographic, I try to capture the essence of the habit. Baking sourdough bread is an ongoing process with different kinds of chapters. Baking a new bread is always its own kind of session, and between breads there is the starter to take care of. Therefore, it is a continual practice.

Furthermore, even though there are time values, sourdough bread is free from tickers and clocks. The dough develops according to its own character, and the baker's task is to become acquainted with it. It is more about intuition than theoretical knowledge.

To sum up, baking sourdough bread is an ongoing process that takes time, but it is something that is not to be accomplished. Baking weaves moments of intuition into everyday life.

(Why I find this intriguing: all this could be said as well of landscape architecture!)

  1. I really enjoy the simplicity of your graphic, as well as the colors, they go well together. The way the curved shape takes the form of a dough is very creative and cute! I wish that the font of the instructions were a bit larger in contrast to the graphic, now they have to be zoomed in and hence get a bit smudged. Other than that, a great post!

  2. I like the minimalistic presentation of the journey of baking. The bright orange color helped to pop out the route graphically. And the irregular line significantly corresponds to the shape of the dough during the making process. The infographic looks creative and lovely. I wish the size of the font could be bigger, allowing the information to be more readable. Also, if there are numbers for each step could possibly deliver the information clearer.

  3. Hi Venla :) Like your artistic depiction about the journey of the sourdough to be a bread. It is breadtaking really! ;D Will try this recipe sometime. Thanks.

  4. Really interesting infographic. Was the anti-clockwise flow on purpose to emphasize that 'there are no tickers and clocks'?
